Education Law 2: Intentional Torts, Defamation & Contract Law Fall 2026 – ASBOA Professional Learning Series

Strengthen your legal literacy, sharpen your analytical skills, and elevate your professional practice with Education Law 2, an intensive, graduate‑level learning experience designed exclusively for ASBOA members. Note: Education Law 1 is not a prerequisite to enroll in this course.

Why Take This Course

Education leaders routinely navigate complex situations involving staff, students, vendors, and community partners. This course equips you with the legal understanding and analytical tools needed to respond confidently and competently.

Participants gain:

  • A working knowledge of key intentional torts—including battery, assault, intentional infliction of mental suffering, and intentional interference with business relations.
  • A deep understanding of defamation (libel and slander) and its defences—critical for navigating communication, reputation, and conflict in school settings.
  • A practical foundation in contract law, including offer, acceptance, consideration, breach, remedies, and equitable doctrines such as estoppel and waiver
  • Graduate‑level case analysis skills, enabling you to interpret fact patterns, extract legal principles, and apply them to real‑world educational contexts.
  • For more information, see the Course Outline here.

Course Format

  • Six live Zoom classes held Fridays  from 11 am to 1 pm on November 6, 13, 20, 27 and December 4, 11 (Oral Examinations: December 16)
  • Interactive group work, breakout rooms, and case presentations
  • Open‑book oral examination to demonstrate mastery

This course mirrors the rigour of a Master’s‑level law seminar—without the university tuition.

Who Should Attend

Ideal for school business officials, emerging leaders, and anyone pursuing or renewing the Certified School Business Official (CSBO) designation. This course provides 18 hours of School Law credit toward CSBO eligibility or renewal.
